We invite you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us during your stay from September 15 to October 15. This annual event commemorates the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities and their influence and contributions to American society.
The timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations. September 15 was chosen as the kickoff because Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821.
During your stay, there are many ways you and your family can honor Hispanic men and women and learn about a culture you would like to know more about. Here are a few fun ways:
Play dominos
Set up a family game night in your resort residence. Instead of playing a board game, though, learn to play dominoes. This pastime has been popular among Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Cubans.
Sample Cuban food
Have dinner at singer Gloria Estefan’s restaurant, Estefan Kitchen, just a short drive away at the Promenade at Sunset Walk. Enjoy authentic Cuban food and live music six days a week.
Break a piñata
Everyone in your group can have fun taking a swing at a piñata! The reward of spilled sweets and other treats makes for a little friendly competition — and great memories of a Mexican tradition.
Dance Salsa
Get up and move! Learn to dance salsa, which was made popular in New York by Puerto Ricans, from your resort residence with Salsanerd’s virtual classes. The first five lessons in the demo are free.
If you need assistance making arrangements for these activities, please contact our concierge, who will be happy to help you. Bienvenidos!
